Results Week: Week of 1/27

I started out this week thinking the deals weren't that great!! I was wrong!! Rite Aid was a little crazy this week.  Because the Everett one is so small, I couldn't get the Scrubbing Bubbles deal that I wanted!  Also, there is a double dipping deal going on with the Aveeno.  I didn't realize it until later that I didn't get the double dipping because of my wellness card being gold status.  I am very close to that deal and will probably get it next week.  Also I had to divide up my transactions there because the Aveeno coupons stated only a total of four coupons per transaction.  So I need to do that separate to keep my total low!  I went to CVS, Rite Aid, and Giant Eagle this week

Couponing Tip: One key ingredient to making couponing successful is organizing.  First off, making your binder easy to access.  Everyone is different on their organizing.  What makes mine easier for me is to have it divided up.  I have four major sections, hygiene, household, food, misc.  My hygiene section is even more divided up by toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, makeup, etc.  My household section has laundry, all purpose cleaners, floor cleaners, toilet paper/paper towel products, etc.  My food section has drinks, fridge, freezer, canned, meats, etc.  My misc has baby items, dog items, medicines (which is divided up even more for quicker access), store/restaurant coupons, etc.  To start, get a binder!  I have a zip up one because of how clumsy I am and so coupons don't fall out!  Buy baseball card holders!  There are also different kinds if you don't like folding up your coupons.  This is what helps me.  It is a bit time consuming, but well worth it for maximum savings!

Results Week of 1/20-1/26

This week, the deals were amazing!!  After seeing what all I got, I feel I went a bit crazy with the deals!  At CVS, I used my gift card again, so the total won't count to that amount.  The good news is I only have $1.28  left on that card, so then you will see my total of "actually" paying out of my pocket!  Rite Aid had so many deals that I wanted to do it all in one trip and paid a whole lot outta pocket!  I did reach my Buy & Save $100 goal and a $20 +up reward printed out!  So after all of that out of pocket cost, I have plenty of +up rewards to use on how I see fit!  Hopefully the next two weeks there has tons of deals!  This was the last week in January to finish the Buy & Save program.  In two weeks, Feburary's will start and that is the last month that they will have this promotion.  I also took a small trip to Walmart.  I decided to use up those coupons on really great items for under $1.00!

Couponing Tip: Do the terms "stacking coupons" confuse you?  Don't worry, I was first confused too. This is where you stack a manufacturer  coupon with a store coupon for one item.  You can't do this with two manufacturer coupons. The main stores that allow "stacking" are Target, Rite Aid, & CVS. I am going to break down each store for you to better understand. Target: Target has their own store coupons.  Sometimes you find them in the Sunday inserts; print them off of the target.com site; and on your smartphone, download the Target app to receive a text for mobile coupons.  The mobile coupons can only be used once for an item.  The barcode that attaches with it will know which ones you used and didn't use. The target.com coupons are only allowed to be printed twice.  Some Targets will only allow one "stacking" of the same item once. This means, if you have two printable target coupons and two manufacturer coupons for Downy, you can only buy one Downy per transaction.  Rite Aid: This store has a great stacking policy!  You can use up to three types of coupons per item!  They have the ad perks feature online.  You watch a video and print them.  One coupon only prints.  There is also flyer ad coupons and facebook coupons.  The only way you can triple stack an item is if one is a manufacturer  one has the beginning code RC48, and the other has RC49.  Those RC codes are store coupons!  You can't use two of the same beginning number for one item.  CVS: They have their "magic machine" that you scan your card one.  You also rarely get store coupons too!  You can get these in your mail or online.  If that rare moment happens, you can stack all three of them together!!  I hope this helps clarify what the couponing term "stacking" means!

2013 Results Week: 1/13-1/19

This week, I only stuck with one store.  I had to visit it multiple times because of the transaction rules, but Rite Aid was the only place that peeked my interest.  I am also enjoying Rite Aid's Buy & Save promotions that they have every January & February.  If you are unsure what this is , you have to buy at least $100 of selected products, total counts before coupons, and you will get a $20.00 +up reward.  If you go further, of course, you will get more.  To know what the items are, you will see a red Buy & Sale tag on the product shelves. If my local CVS didn't have the kiosk broke for the majority of the week, I might of shopped there this week with those great coupons some customers got!  To me since I had a total of $18.00 ECB, I decided that it would be easier to wait until next week, so I can buy things I am interested in.  CVS did have some good deals, but not enough for me to shop there.

Couponing Tip: Do you know what to do if your reward doesn't print?  This happened to me last week at CVS.  The Aveeno deals should have printed out a $17.00 ECB.  I bought the requirement, which was 2 and I knew I didn't buy the excluded items.  What to do is before the next transaction or before you leave the store, double check your list and your extrabucks.  Make sure all of them printed.  If one didn't, go to the flier rack and find the item in the ad.  Take it to the spot where that item is kept and double check.  Is there a sales tag there?  Is this an excluded item?  Is this the correct size requirement?  Did I hit the required amount? If all of those questions end in a yes, then go straight back up front.  When you get to the cashier, explain what item didn't print.  Show them your receipt, the items, and the sales ad.  When they also verify you met the requirement of the purchase, they will print it out for you.  Always be nice and calm when explaining.  Being rude and ignorant will only upset the employees and not want to ever work with you.  If you shop there often, reputation is everything then.  I know personally by my visits, how some coupons can be.  I have heard their stories and sadly, couponers don't usually have a good reputation.

2013 Results Week: Week of 1/6

Welcome to 2013!! It's a new year with new beginnings.  I was excited to start up the "new" website.  I hope everyone loves it and learns something new.  It's a lot of work and I am enjoying it!  So just be patient with me as I get into a routine and make changes along the way.  For those who is reading this for the first time, I want to tell you what this Coupon Journey is about.  Last year, I decided instead of a New Year's resolution, I wanted to see what couponing really does for my family.  So I started a private facebook group to track my journey.  My goal was to only spend $20 a week. Sometimes I go over and sometimes I don't.  It all depends on the deals.  My $20 is toward the drugstores, Walmart, Target, and non-food items at the grocery stores.  Maybe one day I will master the art of the grocery stores and add it to my journey. As you can tell, this small group became something even more and here we are!

This week I went to my usual stomping grounds, Rite Aid and CVS.  The deals were awesome at both places!  I found myself today wishing Rite Aid didn't do the "one a day" up reward transaction. I found myself paying a little bit more out of pocket because of it.  I still have a good amount on the CVS gift card I got for Christmas.  Because of that, I will show you what my out of pocket cost would have been, but because this gift card was a gift and not from my wallet, I am not counting this toward my $20 spending goal.  I count it as free.

Couponing Tip: Get to know the store's coupon policy.  If you plan to be a regular couponer or an extreme coupon, it is vital to know the Store Policy.  You can find them at any of the stores websites or view the ones on our site.  Once you find them, print it.  After printing, read it, study it, memorize it and put it in your binder.  There has been many occasions I needed to pull mine out.  Some cashiers actually don't know their workplace's coupon policy and that is when having one comes handy.  After you successful gain knowledge of the policy, you will know what to and what not to do. This can also make a difference in what you pay out of pocket and what you could of saved on.
