2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 10/20

This week I only went to CVS.  My coupons and deals wasn't working out at Rite Aid, so I skipped it and hoping there is a great deals next week.  I thought I would head over to Weis and pick up some great deals to find them out of stock and grabbing rainchecks (I knew I should've grabbed them on Sunday!).  So I walked into my one and only store, CVS with a plan. Walked in and found a cart of goodies that was 90% off...cha-ching!!  Scanned my card found my Beauty Bucks on there and took off to find...they don't carry everything that was on my list.  It was the most crucial item to make those transactions work beautifully. So I ended up having to go into panic mode and freestyle. May I add, it's hard sometimes to freestyle with a restless three-year-old.  I had rainchecks that from up to a year ago with me that I was cashing in and I had to do this right.  Sadly though, I don't have alot of extrabucks for next week and may have to pay more out of pocket, but I am pretty happy with how this week's turned out overall.

Couponing Tip: Be a generous couponer and share coupons!  Some great examples I have is if you see someone with something in their cart behind you in line and you know you'll be taking awhile to check out, give them a coupon or two out of your binder for some of their items.  If there is a stellar deal happening and the coupon is ready to expire or it's a product you don't use, put it on the shelves.  Sometimes I get formula coupons in the mail, without my name on it, and I will go and put them on the shelve.  Anyone who has paid for formula, knows how great that is to find that!  Just sharing the coupon deals will not only make them feel better, but it will help you feel better too!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 10/13

This week was a great week at Rite Aid!!  The deals were pouring and I found some more I want to get after I type this up (sorry!).  The Purina Dog Food Deal seems too good to pass up since we have a dog.  Check out our Rite Aid Page to read about that deal!  Plus I got to stock up on nail clippers.  I get a lot of them and then it seems we lose them and now that I stocked up on some, I will probably find all the other ones that have became lost.  I was also a bit disappointed at Weis when the Zest Body Wash was out of stock.  Thank God for Rainchecks!

This wasn't a great week of couponing.  I didn't really feel it.  I assume this is why I delayed this post.  For that apologize.  Rite Aid has only one great deal that I decided not to get and wait until the following week.  I went to CVS, Walmart & Weis this week. This just seemed to be an off week of me and my couponing.

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 9/22

I waited until the end of the week for my score!! I got everything on my list except the Palmolive at Rite Aid, which was my fault.  I forgot to stop and print off the adperk coupon for it.  My mistake!  I also found a great deal on the Campfire Marshmallows.  I think I went a tad bit overboard, so I thinking about a nice fall night bonfire with many mouths that love them.  I also went to CVS & Weis too!

2013 Coupon Jouney: Week of 9/15

This week I headed to my usual spots, CVS & Rite Aid.  I left Rite Aid confused and realized that the cashier scanned an extra item and had to go back for refund.  Then at CVS I found the 90% off clearance aisle and went a little cray-cray in it.  I spent $4.00 in extrabucks on that transaction because I knew I reached my $5.00 Beauty Bucks, so I wanted to snatch these deals for next year!

Couponing Tip: One of the biggest ways I save so much money is shopping at multiple stores.  One day each week I dedicate it as my 'errand' day.  For example, when I decide to go to the grocery store, I may hit 3-4 spots for groceries because I only will buy the items that are on sale and go to a cheaper store, for around my area is Save-A-Lot or even Dollar Tree to get those items that aren't normally on sale.  I also found that some gas stations have the cheaper prices in milk too.  I sit down and sort out what I am buying where, get my list and coupons organized for the trip and go!!  Sure it takes a little extra time out of your day to stop at a few stores, but the savings is well worth it!!  So remember, Multiple Store = Maximal  Savings!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 9/8

This week I made the mistake of waiting until the end of the week to do my couponing.  I ended up with more rainchecks than product again.  I can't complain about the amount I spent though!! I was very pleased with it!  I went to Rite Aid & CVS!!

Couponing Tip: Keep track of your couponing!!  For myself, I have my public coupon journey!  You don't need to be so extreme.  After you feel like you have mastered the beginning steps of couponing, keep track!  Personally, I have a notebook and each week I write how much I spent, saved, spent on newspapes, monthly total, and year to date total.  I made myself a goal of $20 a week for the drugstores/supercenter spending. It will amaze you how much $20 really is for a year and how much you actually spent/saved!!  It's a great personal lesson in life and I am hoping on day to expand to the grocery part also!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 9/1

This week I headed to CVS, Rite Aid, and swung into Walmart for some moneymaking shaving cream!  I went off the beaten path at CVS when I saw the diaper clearance!!  My daughter is soooo close to being potty trained and those Huggies Slip Ons can work perfect as Pull Ups also!!  Rite Aid was a nightmare!!  The register hated not only me, but the entire staff!  It didn't like my +Up Rewards.  Would not and refused to recognize them.  So three transaction redos and 45 minutes later, we got to fool the register and I got my sale!  I had my daughter (who just turned three) with me and I was very blessed that she was in a good mood and didn't flip out for being in that store for so long!  The plus side of Walmart was I walked out with the money, so I was pleased with this easy moneymaker and now have plenty shaving gels (like 30 +) in my stockpile.

Couponing Tip:  We all know about finding coupons in the Sunday Paper, but did you know that magazines are another great place for coupons?  There is a magazine that is called All You, found only on Walmart shelves that has lots of coupons in them!!  Also, other magazines will have them in too.  On YSHM, we tell you about free magazine subscriptions all the time!!  Some of these magazines I don't even read, I just know there are coupons that are sent in them.  I get it out of the box, search for the coupons and done with it.  Usually I have someone who wants to read the magazine or my trash can will get the events going on.

We visited the stores 22 times to get these deals!

Out of the $485.86 worth of retail, we only spent $104.81 of it after rebates!

The single most item we bought was 2 Pocket Folders!  We bought 22 of them this year and every single on only cost $0.01!!

Our second most bought item was pens!!  We heart pens because they always seem to disappear!!

We saved a total of $381.05 this year!!

Our favorite sales was the almost $12 scissors that was on sale for $1 the first week of the year!

Our series was so popular that we was on Central PA Live talking about our deals!  Check out our Live TV talk here----> Click Here

Lastly, the most important part is to say that we have enough items in our stockpile that this pile will last all year plus!!  This is what extreme couponing & savings does!

Our percentage in savings was 78% with only a few coupons used the entire item!!   We deem this a successful year!

2013 Back-To-School Series Week 8: Week of 8/25

The Back-To-School have basically winded down this week!  There will be a few more weeks a few deals, but the majority of them have passed.  I took advantage of this week and deem it my last week of my personal Back-To-School Shopping Series.  One of the main reasons is because  have plenty of goodies and I think I am prepared for another Back-To-School Giveaway next year, but my have two winner next year.  We shall see what my mind comes up with until then!  This week I went to Toys r us and Staples.  Toys r us already started their clearance on bookbags and lunch boxes.  My daughter will be starting Pre-K next year and I took full advantage of buying her a bookbag.  Only one kid to buy for next year! Places like Target will be starting their clearance soon too, so keep an eye out on it.

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 8/25

After a few weeks of "Eh?" couponing for me, I went to Rite Aid and CVS and killed it!  I felt very victorious walking out of those stores!  I was bummed that Rite Aid was out of the Command Hooks, but was able to score a raincheck for the future.  I was shocked the cashier did a raincheck for me and I didn't even ask.  Fingers crossed that I can redeem this without issue.  Plus the CVS Coupon Machine loved me this week and gave me the coupons I exactly wanted.  Thank you Magic Machine.  YSHM hearts you!  Friday I will be doing my last shopping spree for Back-To-School.  Here and there you may find clearance items in this portion, after the sales dwindle.  Let's get started with my victorious week by bragging in detail :)

Results Week: Week of 8/25-8/31

Couponing Tip: To many this will be a no-brainier, but there are some that don't get it.  DO NOT PHOTOCOPY COUPONS!  Did I make myself clear?  Good! You can't copy 50 of the same coupon (printable or not) and expect to clear Walmart or Target out of product.  No, no!  Each printed coupon allows 2 printable coupons per printer and they each have a different serial number.  By photocopying coupons, you are putting yourself at risk for federal charges, making other couponers look bad, and hurting the stores margin.  By also doing this you will find even more tougher coupon policies and price of products being risen to help make up the difference by the stores losing more.  Stores do love coupons, they make money off of the coupons, but do it the correct way.  As always, carry that coupon policy with you and always remember to have good couponing ethics.

Back-To-School Series Week 7: Week of 8/18

Week 7 of the Back-To-School Series is here.  I am personally thinking of doing only one more week of this.  I have plenty of goodies to last all year and then some!  I did enjoy buying these goodies though!!  It's always refreshing to buy something outside of the usual spectrum!!   My new excited coming is Black Friday! I know we are only 96 days away, but I am still excited!  I went to Staples and OfficeMax this week! I was disappointed I didn't get the adult scissors for $0.50 at Staples and the penny items among other items weren't there at OfficeMax.  My punishment for going on Fridays!  I will be doing it again this week because of the availability in my schedule to travel that way.

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 8/18

All I have to say this week is, "Holy Shaving Cream!"  To be honest though, with this being a moneymaker at Walmart, I think I will be using my couple coupons I have left and will be getting more!  I remember when I first started couponing Shaving Cream was so easy to come by.  It was always free or moneymaker.  Then that darn TLC Couponing Show (that will remain nameless) ruined a good thing!  Basically in 2 1/2 years, this is the most free shaving cream I have found, so I am going for it and stocking up like a crazy person.  This week I went to Rite Aid, CVS, and Target!  I was hoping to hit Weis this week before typing this up, but it did not happen.  I will be posting the Back-To-School Deals either late Friday night or Saturday morning again!  I have to head in that area on Friday to pick up a huge box of goodies, so I will do my shopping then instead of making a special trip!  Helps save on gas too!!

Back-To-School Deals: Week 6 -- Week of 8/11

We have ended Week 6 for the Back-To-School Deals!!  I didn't hit OfficeMax this week because of the lack of deals in my area.  I however hit Rite Aid & Staples!  Rite Aid had their great $0.29 items and Staples had some great deals.  I did hit Staples at the end of week, which means I didn't get everything on my list!  I did at least get those penny deals!!  The Playschool Crayons are missing from my picture that I bought from Rite Aid.  I think they are somewhere hiding in my car or my toddler grabbed them out of my bag.  Either scenario is very likely!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 8/11

This week I went to CVS, Rite Aid, and Weis!  CVS was out of the great Soothe deal!  I did however stumble across a cart with 75% off As Seen On TV items.  I splurged a little on a few items and one of them are for the 500 Likes Giveaway!  Love it!!  Because of the crazy week I am having, I will finish my Back-To-School Shopping on Friday and praying that all the items will be there!! I preach that you should go at the beginning of the week, but my excuse is that I live in the middle of no where to begin with, so I like to wait and do all my trips while I am out and my next outing towards an office supply store is Friday!  I will do my best to have it posted early Saturday morning or late Friday night!

Couponing Tip:  People have suspected I buy tons of papers to get deals, but I don't!! Depending on the inserts, depends on my amount of papers I buy.  If there are only one or two, I will buy 2-3 papers.  I am lucky to have different regional papers in my area and each paper has different inserts in them because coupons are regional!  If there are 3 or more coupons, depending on how good they are, I will buy 4, sometimes 5 inserts.  However, I have been lucky and having a local newspaper delivery person handing me his leftover inserts.  I usually give the majority of them away, but I do keep some of them as back up, just in case that great deal comes and I already used my amount!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 7/28-8/3

Great week for couponing this week for sure!! I have been noticing that I have been scaling back some.  Unsure if it's because I have a good stockpile and just grabbing things here are there or if it's because I have my mind divided on Back-To-School and this.  I only was able to head to CVS and Rite Aid.  After taking the picture and putting my pile away, I realized I forgot to add the Starbucks drink (that was in the fridge) in the picture!  I also had a great unexpected double dip on extrabucks.  I turned in a raincheck and received not only my raincheck extrabucks, but also for this week's special!!  Woot!  Rite Aid has many moneymakers happening also!  I know Weis had some good deals and Walgreens, but I haven't made it there yet this week before posting this.  Also, Friday I will be heading to the office stores **fingers crossed I get everything** Friday.   Also, by Monday or Tuesday I will have the Back-To-School Giveaway ready to go!  Watch for details!

Couponing Tip: While doing my shopping there are two things I have learned about store set up.  Avoid the eye leveling shelves and end caps.  I will admit at Target the end caps are the first place to find clearance though!!  Other than that, unless there is a killer deal in those areas that are on your list avoid!! They like to put the "I think I am getting a great deal items in that area.  Not only that, next time you are in the store, check out the prices on the top and bottom shelves compared to eye level.  You will see the difference!!  You can also avoid this trap by sticking to your list!!

2013 Back-To-School Series Week 3: Week of 7/21-7/27

This week, Week 3,  I went to Staples & OfficeMax.  I had to redo my $5.00 Minimum because only one item that was on my list was in stock.  At least I did get all my penny items!! The weeks are winding down and I am very excited to start figuring out the goodies for the Back-To-School Giveaway!!  Really Excited!! I am enjoying buying Office/School Supplies for my stockpile.  I believe it's because it's something different and once a year to enjoy buying.  However, the weekly drugstore sales have went south until this "Back-To-School" frenzy calms down!

2013 Coupon Journey: Week of 7/21

This week I had a hard time finding Drugstore Deals that I liked.  I have slacked or more like haven't been wanting to pay full price for ink, which has made my couponing options limited. I have been hoping for many items to come up with my rainchecks, but it looks more like my coupons will expire before the product is back in stock again.  Fortunately, the CVS Rainchecks doesn't expire!  I will say before someone makes the comment, the Tena Pads were free & they are being donated to a family friend's mother!! We young one don't need them if you are wondering! For three weeks straight, I will repeat myself by saying, "Here's to hoping for better deals next week."

Couponing Tip:  Organization is key when couponing.  Whether is planning your trips, your binder, or your stockpile.  I wanted to focus this week on organizing on your coupons. People believe it takes hours on end to organize coupons.  Honestly, it can. That is if you want to do everything in one day.  I divide up my organization throughout the week. I cleaned out the binder midweek after I complete all my couponing.  I take out the old and organize it to get ready for the new.  Then Sunday's I begin cutting and organizing them into section.  For example, this following Sunday is a big one with FIVE confirmed inserts!  I will divide it up like I have my binder.  My four major sections are: Hygiene, Household, Food, and Other.  In them I have small sections.  For instance my hygiene is: toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash/floss, other dental, razors, shaving gel, female products, makeup, lotions, yadda...yadda...yadda.  You get the drift!  After I have clipped the coupons I pick up one of my four sections and start dividing it out into the mini-sections I listed above.  The great thing about this is if I have to stop for the day, I can keep my other sections in pile and move them easily until I go into it.  The worse thing you can do is leave it go for weeks without organizing!  Instead of saving, you will only gain headaches!  Another system is the folder file system.  I have people that give me extra inserts after I buy my Sunday ones, with them, I have a little filing system for each week and when I see a deal and used up my coupons that I had in the binder, I will go to that system and retrieve my coupons!  If you ever have any questions, get ahold of us on facebook (the faster way) and we will be happy to answer and help you even organize!  We help loving people save!

2013 Coupon Journey: Results Week 7/14-7/20

This week I was able to head to Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid.  I have been annoyed with CVS lately because they haven't had my raincheck items in stock.  However, I received a $5.00 Beauty Bucks, so I used it and kept my $10.00 Extrabucks I earned 2 weeks ago.  I have been hoping for a great week there!  I also bought a few items at Walgreens, I mainly went in for my Balance Points.  I am saving them for my major Black Friday Shopping!  Very excited for it this year!  I also went to Rite Aid and had stocked up on more toilet paper and other items! This Friday, I will be finishing my Back-To-School Shopping and will post them early Saturday Morning!

Results Week: Week of 7/7

This week I decided to extend my usual couponing stops and added Target & Giant Eagle to the list!  I enjoyed getting different things again this week, mainly household items instead of hygiene.  Later this week, I will be added a second half onto the My Couponing Journey Page.  It will be my Back-To-School Results.  Sadly, I don't live near the main office supplies stores, so Friday when I need to go to the area of other reasons, I will stop in and get them.  Stay tuned for my results at the end of the week then!  Back to these results, Target was great with the text coupons offer FRESH to 82738.  They are great.  Rite Aid was a great week and sadly CVS was a bad week for me.  Everything I wanted was not on the shelves.  Maybe next week I will have a better week there!

Results Week: Week of 6/30-7/6

This week I heading to CVS & Rite Aid.  The week started Sunday at Rite Aid for me because the majority of the great deals were with coupons that expired that day.  I also had some high value John Frieda Rite Aid Coupons Print onto last week's receipt and the deal got better when I found then in a Buy One, Get One Free bundle!  I felt this week that the deals at CVS weren't that great.  I always enjoy buying my favorite cosmetic brand, like I did this week and I was happy to be couponing for combs/brushes.  I like it when the deals mix themselves up.  I also got $0.50 Extrabucks for my Spring Spending.  After I left the store, I saw the cashier never scanned my 20% off ad coupon.  I was a little upset about it, but it was too late!  With this being said, here's to better deals next week!

Results Week: Week of 6/23-6/29

I made the rookie couponing mistake of shopping later in the week. Thus, I ended up with a lot of rainchecks and not many products!!  Either way it wasn't too bad of a trip. I went to CVS & Rite Aid!

Couponing Tip: Ironically, I planned out my weekly couponing tips beforehand and this week is to describe the best way of stockpile.  My saying goes, "Building up slow is the way to go!"  Get things here and there and build your pile according to your family needs.  There is no need to go all Extreme Couponing TV Style.    In the long run if you did it that way, would you really use 50 bottle of salad dressing before the expiration date?  Building up slow and according to your family needs ensures the best way to save the most money!
